Docent Bios

Former Docents

Marilyn Jensen – Hometown Salt Lake City.  Currently lives in Park City.  She is the great, great granddaughter of Elizabeth & Thomas Whitaker.  Marilyn is married with one son and two grandchildren.  She has a B.S. in Speech Pathology from Utah State University and additional study to assist in archaeological digs.  Her professional career (38 years) as a flight attendant for Western & Delta Airlines, has afforded her exposure to the world.  She loves being involved with people.  She enjoys being a volunteer at the Whitaker Museum and the interaction with the special people who come to visit. 

Ruth Ann (Thurston) Blackburn–Hometown Monroe, Ohio.  Moved to Centerville in 1999.  She is child number 7 out of 10 children.  Ruth Ann is married with 9 children (2 are hers and 7 belong to her husband Dwight). They have 19 grandchildren.  Some of her hobbies are crafting, quilting, spinning wool, reading & family. She enjoys traveling.  She enjoys the opportunity to volunteer at the Whitaker Museum and to be able to teach others the art of spinning.  In her reading about the Whitaker Home she discovered that the land was purchased from the Thurston’s.  She is not sure if they are related. 

Diane Chamberlain – Her hometown was Los Angeles, California, lived in Centerville and currently resides in Orem, Utah.  Diane is a descendent of Thomas & Elizabeth Whitaker.  Diane received a B.A. from California State University, a M.S. from Brigham Young University and Ed.Dfrom the University of Utah. Some of her hobbies are photography, history & traveling. Diane has had a connection with the Whitaker Home since she was a child.  On their trips to Utah, they would drive up and down Main Street and her mother (Virginia Parrish) would tell stories about the homes that belonged to her family, including the Whitaker Home. She enjoys giving tours to the cub scouts & their excitement about the history.

Vonnie Brockbank–She was born in Hawaii and currently lives in Centerville.  Vonnie attended two years of college and graduated from secretarial school.  She has 2 daughters, 2 sons, 14 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.  She enjoys gardening, reading and eating out.  Vonnie enjoys being a volunteer at the Museum and the opportunity to give community service. 

Christie Slagowski – Christie has lived in Centerville for 40 years.  She and her husband Roger have 7 children.  She attended BYU & Weber University and received a B.S. Degree.  Christie enjoys music (playing piano, singing in chorus, attending concerts and plays).  She also enjoys reading about the founders of our great country. She also enjoys being a volunteer at the Whitaker Museum and sharing the history and people that have made a difference in our life with the scouts and families that come to tour the Museum.
