APRIL TRAIL RUN PLANNING WITH BONNEVILLE SHORELINE TRAIL REPRESENTATIVE
Mark Dimond reported on the two trail runs the Committee has sponsored during the past years. The two races were held in April, but it was raining during both races. There were 45 people in attendance at the first race, and fewer participants at the second race. The Committee discussed combining with the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Race to have a 5k and 10k race simultaneously. Brittney Gofoarth, from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Race, reported DeBoer’s Running Store, Bun Basket, Einstein Bagels, Starbucks, Planet Fitness, and Solomon Running have all donated items for the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Race.
Brittney reported the Bonneville Shoreline Committee charges $25 for preregistration and $45 for registration on the day of the race. The Trails Committee agreed to combine their race with the Bonneville Shoreline Race that will be held on either April 23rd or May 7th of 2016. The final date will be determined after Denise Cox talks with the Viewmont Cross Country Coach, as the team has expressed an interest in this event. Bruce Cox, Parks and Recreation Director, will contact Lisa Romney, City Attorney, about the nonprofit legal issues of the registration money. Committee members will be emailed of the final date that is chosen for this race.
The Committee discussed the possibility of a trail hike next year. The Committee agreed a fall hike will be held on September 24, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. on the Deuel Creek Trail.
REPORT ON ANY TRAILS SERVICE PROJECTS
Brayden Farland and his father, Jason Farland, reported on the Eagle Scout Project that Brayden completed October 24th. Brayden and another Eagle Scout worked on the Rockwood Trail where it has a steep slope and connects to Chase Lane. There were 25 Boy Scouts who fixed the ruts and installed 14 water bars and logs. Soil was then carried in buckets and packed into the logs to help prevent erosion. This project took three days, for a total of 200 service hours. Bruce Cox, Parks and Recreation Director, requested this project be featured in the City newsletter, and the names of the Eagle Scouts who planned and worked on this project will be placed on the kiosk at the Rockwood Trailhead.
Denise Cox made a motion to nominate Mark Dimond as chair of the Trails Committee. Mikael Remington was nominated as co-chair of the Trails Committee for the year 2016. Matt Johnson seconded the motion, which was passed by unanimous vote (6-0).
Stephanie Ivie, City Council Liaison, reported the RAP Tax will be allocated sometime between January and April of 2016.
The next Trails Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. in the Business Office Conference Room at City Hall.
At 9:15 p.m., Mark Dimond made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Johnson seconded the motion, which was passed by unanimous vote (6-0).
